Who Am I?

Hello! I'm Tommy Thao. I am a 38-year-old, resilient and determined individual living with kidney disease. I'm a husband/father to my wife and 5 wonderful children. I'm also a brother to 8 brothers, 1 sister, and an uncle to many nieces and nephews. So far, my journey with this condition has taught me the importance of self-care, patience, and advocacy. I'm grateful for the support of loved ones and healthcare professionals who have helped me navigate this journey.

My Interests:

When I'm not doing my PD in the morning/afternoon, I love to spend time with my family, my wife’s family, etc. I love to go on long walks, fishing, and hiking to clear my mind and enjoy nature.

IGA Nephropathy

How A Kidney Transplant Will Affect My Life:

I'm embarking on a new journey with a kidney transplant! This life-changing event will bring:

More energy and vitality
Freedom from dialysis
Improved overall health
Increased independence
Reduced dietary restrictions

But it also means:

A lifetime commitment to medication and monitoring
Lifestyle adjustments to minimize infection risk
Regular check-ups with my healthcare team
Embracing the emotional ups and downs that come with it
