Who Am I?

Hello, my name is Klee and I need a kidney to survive. I live in Hamilton, NJ. I am a single mother with three children, a sister, and an aunt. My son, Dave is 29 years old and has a BA in Psychology. He is a teacher to Kindergarteners in Florida, where he is a recent first-time homeowner. I also have 2 daughters, Zephaniah 18 years old, a college freshman and Moriah 15 years old, a Junior in high school. I’ve been with my boyfriend Steve for almost seven years, and he has been very supportive throughout this process.

My Interests:

I enjoy helping people through volunteering in my spare time. I look for opportunities to volunteer with both local and national organizations. I believe volunteering is giving of my time in the form of love. For that reason, I have included my daughters in volunteering. They look forward to opportunities for serving the Salvation Army: Christmas Toy Drive and Back to School Bash, Susan G. Komen Walk, American Diabetes Association, and the Hamilton Area YMCA.

My Diagnosis:

I currently have Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, primarily due to Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). SCD is known to have adverse affects on major organs, in my case, my kidneys. Currently, I am not on dialysis and would like to remain that way. As many know, the quality of life is greatly impacted when on dialysis. I would hate for my children to see me endure this process. They have endured watching me suffer in pain from sickle cell crises. Crises are episodes of pain that mainly occur in the extremities. They are painful and, in most cases, end in hospitalization. I count it a blessing to be listed because in some cases transplantation is not an option for Sicklers. I am in desperate need to find a kidney donor so that I can live a flourishing life, and I can someday become a grandmother. Unfortunately, my son is not medically eligible to be a donor.

How A Kidney Transplant Will Affect My Life:

Transplantation will allow me to live a richer life. In this current stage I am constantly fatigued. I look forward to the days when I am able to go out and have fun and not feel exhausted when I’m done. I look forward to enjoying the outdoors. I look forward to enjoying travel. All the things most take for granted, until you are impacted with a chronic disease. Most importantly I look forward to serving the people of my community through financial literacy.
