Who Am I?

I am an educator, daughter, friend, lover of animals, and a disciple of God.
I inherited the family curse of kidney failure at the age of 45. My mother and several cousins have died from this disease. As I aged, my kidney numbers slid downward, but the 1st Covid vaccine crashed my filtration value to 19, which qualified me to
begin the lengthy process of being approved for a kidney transplant.
I am blessed that I was approved for a kidney transplant and I am not on
dialysis. Dialysis allows you to live longer but it doesn’t allow you to enjoy life. I still want to contribute to the education of kiddos, continue to share my Christian beliefs, and travel to see God’s creations.

While waiting for a kidney, I have become an advocate & educator to enlighten folks to consider donating an organ to save a life. I have discovered people are not aware of the possibility to donate 1 kidney and still live a healthy life.

My Interests:

I love to plant flowers each spring and watch them mature and bloom. I also love to read most genres of literature. In 2022, I was chosen to be a Delta Kappa Gamma member, a society for outstanding female educators. This year, I was elected as co-president of our chapter. I enjoy the fellowship & philanthropy projects we accomplish for the community.

My Diagnosis:

I am in Stage 4 Kidney Failure. I am blessed to not be on dialysis.

How A Kidney Transplant Will Affect My Life:

It will allow me to feel better, eliminate the strain on other organs, and continue to be a mentor for those in need. As a kidney recipient, I can share first-hand the process and benefits of donating.

Public Service History:

I was an educator for 34 years. I loved working with middle school students. After retiring, I realized I missed the interaction of the students and teachers. It wasn’t long before I started substitute teaching at the local middle school. It keeps me from focusing all my attention on my diagnosis.

Thank you for reading my story and consider being a hero for someone.
